Steve Holland pours cold water on talk of an approach for Lionel Messi.
Chelsea coach Steve Holland, who was taking media duties ahead of the weekend’s Premier League action in the absence of Jose Mourinho, has moved swiftly to distance the club from any potential approach for Barcelona star Lionel Messi, according to reports from the Standard.

Reports have suggested that it would require a total financial investment of £500 million, once the transfer fee and wage packet are added together, to lure Messi away from the Nou Camp – and those are not sums that Holland believes can be made to work by the Stamford Bridge club:
“It’s not a decision I personally would make. When you look at the numbers being mentioned around Messi, I would think it’s an impossible deal for any club working within the financial fair play rules.”
