One of the Premier League’s top defenders, John Stones is being intensely targeted by Chelsea. Will he be a member of another Blues team in 2015?
Everton defender John Stones is considered one of the top defensive prospects in the Premier League and Everton haven’t budged on his sale price so far – but Chelsea are confident that their latest bid will work.
According to the Metro, after having their recent £20 million bid for the 21-year-old Stones rejected, Chelsea have launched a new £26 million bid (much closer to Everton’s asking price) that they are believed to be very confident in.
Stones has been a mainstay with Everton since the Toffees acquired him on a £3 million transfer fee from Barnsley in 2013, making 44 league appearances over the last two seasons.
ESPN FC reported that Everton have displayed considerable resistance to a sale of any kind of their defensive star. Club manager Roberto Martinez even criticized Chelsea for making their interest in Stones public
Stones was a nominee for the prestigious Golden Boy Award in 2014, ultimately finishing just behind Raheem Sterling.
