Chelsea agree deal with Bayer 04 Leverkusen to sign promising young Germany international.
Chelsea have confirmed they are close to confirming the signing of Andre Schurrle from Bayer 04 Leverkusen after coming to an agreement over the transfer fee.
The Germany international forward will now discuss personal terms with the west London club before undertaking a medical, and will become the first signing of the second Jose Mourinho era.
Portuguese boss Mourinho has retaken the reins at Stamford Bridge this summer, having left Chelsea in 2007, but with a deal for Schurrle mooted long before that in both German and UK press, it is hard to be sure how much say he had in the signing.
Schurrle is a fine attacker who tends to cut inside from the left to shoot powerfully at goal, much like Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid, though of course he is far from the same level just yet.
To illustrate that, no player had more shots than Schurrle in the Bundesliga this past season, and his 11 goals and 7 assists are a respectable tally that likely put him immediately ahead of Marko Marin in the Blues’ pecking order.
Schurrle will offer Chelsea a different dimension, and at 22 years of age he has plenty of time to develop into a great player at Stamford Bridge.
