Chelsea have cooled their interest in Atletico Madrid left-back Filipe Luis, as they seek a replacement for Ashley Cole – who has joined Roma.
Spanish newspaper AS is reporting that the Brazil international is back in training with the Spanish champions, and now looks likely to stay put this summer.
The Blues have already had a £12m bid rejected for the 28-year-old, and reports as recent as yesterday suggested the London club were preparing to increase their offer.
Two members of Atletico’s title winning team will already be at Stamford Bridge next season, with goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois returning from his third season-long loan spell and striker Diego Costa completing his £32m move.
Chelsea have recruited heavily from La Liga this summer, having also purchased Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona, as Jose Mourinho looks to improve on the side that finished third in the Premier League last term.
The Independent are reporting that Chelsea have now turned their attention to Argentina left-back Marcos Rojo in their search for a new full-back.
Rojo, 24, is viewed as one of the brightest defensive talents in Europe, and played in his country’s first four World Cup fixtures, before sitting out the quarter-final against Belgium through suspension. He currently plays for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, and could be available for a similar price as Luis.
Another defender who looks set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer is Ryan Bertrand, who spent the second-half of last season on loan with Aston Villa. The 24-year-old has been linked with Liverpool.
