Blues are said to be desperate to bring a word-class marksman to the Bridge this summer.
Chelsea are set to meet Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis within the next 24 hours to thrash out a big-money move for in-demand front man Edinson Cavani, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.
The prolific Uruguay international has been the subject of much speculation of late linking the player with a summer move to either the west London club, Manchester City or Spanish giants Real Madrid.
However, with City as yet unprepared to meet the Serie A club’s £53.5 million asking price for the 26-year-old, which is the value of the striker’s buy-out clause in his current contract with the Italian club, it appears to have now come down to a straight two-horse race for Cavani’s signature.
And it is the Blues who have moved into pole position to land the player, who has netted an incredible 104 goals in just 138 appearances in all competitions for Napoli since joining the southern Italian outfit from Palermo for 17m euros in July 2010.
