Chelsea look to have missed out on Everton starlet John Stones, with the Toffees turning down a fourth bid for the England international.
According to the Daily Mirror, Everton have also rejected 21-year-old defender’s transfer request, which will prevent him from transferring to Stamford Bridge.
“Everton Football Club has rejected a transfer request from John Stones,” Everton chairman Bill Kenwright said in a statement.
Chelsea have been rumoured to be willing to raise their bid to close to £40m, but it appears that Everton will refuse to sell Stones regardless of the price.
Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has already stated that Stones is not for sale.
The Sun reports that Chelsea are not likely to come back with a fifth offer for the defender and Jose Mourinho will have to look at alternate options before the end of the summer window.
Chelsea are reportedly looking to dig deep into its coffers after club owner Roman Abramovich gave permission for bigger summer spending following a humiliating loss to Manchester City.
