Blues may have to look elsewhere now for a new front man this summer.
Chelsea have been hit by the news that their No 1 summer transfer target Radamel Falcao has decided to stay with his current club Atletico de Madrid rather than leave La Liga at the end of this season, says the Metro.
It had been widely expected that the red-hot Colombia international would depart the Spanish capital this summer and join either the European champions or move to Real Madrid, however, the 27-year-old has now decided to stay put with Atletico.
“I have a contract with Atletico for three more years, therefore, that’s the best option,” Falcao said.
“As a group we have the clear goal of qualifying for the Champions League. If we maintain the same level that we have showed, we will achieve our objectives.
“We are not thinking about either Madrid or Barcelona, we are focusing on what we can give and on our objectives.
“I have come to one of the biggest clubs in Spain, in a very important league that is more well-known on the world stage than any of my previous clubs.
“It has allowed me to grow as a footballer, to become known in other parts of the world. It has been a very positive step.”
