In a statement, Vitesse said the Brazilian U-20 international had been arrested last night in the centre of Arnhem.
And whilst they refused to reveal the nature of the incident, a police source quoted by the Mail described it as a ‘sexual offence’.
“We still don’t know what exactly happened,” police spokesman Paul Koetsier is quoted as saying by the Daily Mail. “That must be found out during the investigation.
“We can’t make it more concrete than a suspicion of a sexual offence. Maybe there will me more information later today.”
Vitesse announced that the player wouldn’t be available for selection in this weekend’s match with Excelsior.
They declined to comment on exactly how they’ll handle the situation going forward, but the club said based on the fact the player is not meant to go out 48 hours before a match, he will be immediately out of the side and receive a hefty fine for that alone.
Wallace has yet to make an appearance for the Chelsea first-team though Jose Mourinho did select him for the Blues summer tour in Asia in 2013.
The South American spent last season on-loan at Inter Milan where he managed just three appearances before being shipped out to Holland for this campaign.
