Although the Blues did their part – hammering the Israeli side 4-0 – a shock result in Portugal means that they will have to wait until matchweek six to secure their progression from Group G.
Dynamo Kyiv upset the odds to win 2-0 away at Porto, leaving the Ukrainian giants just two points behind Jose Mourinho’s men.
The good news for Chelsea is that they can win the group if they beat Porto at home next month.
However, if they draw, the Londoners will finish second, while a home loss would see them eliminated if Kiev beat Maccabi, which they should as the group whipping boys have lost five out of five to date.
An Andriy Yarmolenko penalty gave Dynamo the lead against Porto in the first half, before the above Derlis Gonzalez solo goal – assisted by an error from legendary Champions League goalkeeper Iker Casillas – sealed the points.
