Blues have finally lost patience with club-record signing Torrres.
Chelsea have moved a step closer to agreeing a multimillion-pound deal to sign in-demand Atletico de Madrid front man Radamel Falcao at the end of the season, according to reports in the Daily Mail.
The Colombia international is currently one of European football’s most-wanted marksmen due to his prolific form in front of goal for both his current club in the Spanish capital, as well as his previous employers on the Continent, FC Porto.
The 27-year-old has netted 28 goals in just 33 appearances for Atletico this term, as the Vincente Calderon outfit look to secure Champions League football courtesy of a top four finish in La Liga.
And with the West London giants known to be on the look-out this summer for a new attacker to fire the club back to glory next season following the lacklustre form of British-record £50 million signing Fernando Torres, the South American forward is believed to be the club’s number one target.
Falcao is contracted to the Spaniards until May 2016 and as a result will not come cheap when the transfer window reopens on June 1.
However, it is understood that the Blues’ billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich is prepared to break the bank in order to land his man, with a fee in excess of £45m expected to be enough to convince the La Liga outfit to do business.
