Chelsea predicted XI vs Liverpool: Mourinho’s side in holiday-mode for Reds visit
Jose Mourinho sees the experienced centre-back as an ideal replacement for Blues talisman John Terry, say the Daily Star, and, at 29, he is in the peak years of his career.
The Uruguayan is valued at around £18 million and Chelsea seem willing to splash the cash as they think Godin could prove a vital inspiration for the club’s youth players.
The newly crowned Premier League champions will have to fight off interest from Manchester United but believe they can convince him now is the right time to make the biggest move of his career.
Chelsea are also keen on Atletico’s 23-year-old midfielder Koke, however it’s unlikely Diego Simeone’s side will relent from their demand to meet his £45m release clause.
There’s also interest in a potential deal for Everton’s John Stones but are willing to bide their time to seal a move and are conscious the Toffees will make it hard for them.
