Blues want more firepower in attack at the Bridge next season.
European champions Chelsea are lining up a surprise end-of-season move for Bayer Leverkusen front man Stefan Kiessling, according to reports in the Metro.
The West Londoners are believed to be prioritising the addition of new attacking firepower for the club this summer, so as to add more competition for places up front, with only Spain international Fernando Torres and recent new January addition Demba Ba to count on at present.
And, with club-record signing Torres currently struggling badly to find the back of the net, the Blues feel that Leverkusen’s powerful attacker could just be the perfect man to give the Spaniard some pressure for his place.
Kiessling has scored an impressive 119 goals in only 339 appearances for the Bundesliga club in the seven years that he has been with them and at 6ft 3in, the player also has the right physical presence that Chelsea are looking for.
However, Chelsea also know that they will have to fight off competition for the player’s signature from the likes of fellow Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund as well as Dynamo Kiev if they are to be able to persuade the 29-year-old forward to swap Leverkusen for Stamford Bridge next season.
