The Togo international, formerly of Arsenal and Manchester City, has struggled for playing time at White Hart Lane this season, making just ten appearances and scoring two goals after failing to impress new manager Mauricio Pochettino since he took over in the summer.
Adebayor has previously been regarded as one of the Premier League’s top strikers, but has also had a career plagued by inconsistency and by apparent attitude problems.
Still, with Chelsea seemingly keen to improve on their depth upfront, it may be that the 31-year-old could have a role to play at Stamford Bridge, with current star Drogba perhaps unlikely to play on beyond this season.
That would only leave Loic Remy as backup to first-choice front-man Diego Costa, and that would make Adebayor an attractive option as he would likely be available on the cheap.
