Cameroonian could make Stamford Bridge switch.
Chelsea are considering a surprise bid for Tottenham left-back Benoit Assou-Ekotto in January, reports the Sunday Mirror.
The Blues are likely to lose Ashley Cole when the 31-year-old’s contract expires at the end of this season, with Real Madrid and PSG tracking the England star.
The European Champions are interested in signing Southampton prodigy Luke Shaw, 17, who is also interesting Arsenal, but want a more experienced head until as competition for the left-back spot.
Assou-Ekotto was one of Spurs most consistent performers under former boss Harry Redknapp but has barely played for new head-coach Andre Villas-Boas after injuring his knee early this term.
Villas-Boas has opted to play new signing Jan Vertonghen at left-back and, although Assou-Ekotto is now fit, it remains to be seen if the Cameroonian is part of the Portuguese tactician’s plans at White Hart Lane.
Chelsea are reportedly ready to test Tottenham’s resolve with a £5m bid for the man signed from Lens for £3.5m in 2006.
