Chelsea can breathe easily as Guardiola denies any interest in David Luiz…
Bayern Munich’s new manager Pep Guardiola has flatly denied speculation that his club could move for Chelsea centre-back David Luiz, reports The Daily Mirror.
There had been intense speculation that Bayern would make a £34m move for the talented 26-year-old, although Chelsea were reportedly keen to keep hold of the stopper anyway.
Speaking before the start of his first season at the German treble-winners, the ex-Barcelona boss was adamant that he did not need or want Daviid Luiz, who had such an impressive Confederations Cup with his country earlier this summer.
“He’s not coming to Munich. We’ve got four or five central defenders,” the Spaniard promised.
“There is no truth to the speculation.”
Bayern already have impressive Brazilian Dante, as well as German international Jerome Boateng, Daniel Van Buyten and the option of utilising Spanish midfielder Javi Martinez in the position.
On top of this, Bayern have already spent big money on Thiago and Mario Gotze this summer, improving an already formidable side.
Chelsea fans will be pleased, as although Luiz has been criticised for being defensively error-prone earlier in his career, they appreciate his technical ability and some of the wonderful goals he bagged at the end of Rafa Benitez’s interim stint last season.
