The Giallorossi are considering their options as Mattia Destro looks set to leave this summer, although he won’t be staying on at Milan after his loan spell at San Siro last season.
His departure will leave a hole in Roma’s frontline, and they have identified Lukaku as the man to fill it, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The 22-year-old already has “one foot in Trigoria”, the club’s training ground, according to the pink paper, although it remains to be seen if a deal can be agreed between the two clubs.
Roma coach Rudi Garcia will likely relish the opportunity to work with the youngster, although he is certainly under pressure to rebuild as he is also expected to lose former Arsenal winger Gervinho this summer.
Meanwhile, Lukaku enjoyed successful loans spells with West Brom and Everton before making his move to Goodison Park permanent from Chelsea, where he failed to make the grade under Jose Mourinho.
Lukaku scoring 20 goals in 48 appearances in all competitions last season.
However, it was a disappointing campaign for the club after they finished in 11th place in the Premier League, and so it remains to be seen whether or not boss Roberto Martinez makes changes this summer.
A move to Rome will allow the Belgian striker to play in the Champions League next season as well as compete for a domestic title, but there is still a long way to go with the clubs having to officially agree on a fee as well as the player himself reaching an agreement on personal terms.
