The Metro say Diego Simeone’s side have already laid the groundwork for the Frenchman’s exit, presumably to Stamford Bridge, by signing an ideal replacement for him in the 21-year old Argentine forward.
Vietto and Simeone have history, with both working together previously at South American is Racing Club, and it’s not hard to see why the Atletico boss is so keen on reuniting with the young striker with Vietto having scored 20 goals so far this season at the Vicente Calderon.
It would be an almost like-for-like replacement for Griezmann, who himself has managed 22 goals for Atletico in 26 La Liga appearances.
The deal wouldn’t be a cheap one for Chelsea, £43 million needed to match his release clause, however the Metro speculate that flop defender Filipe Luis – himself a former Atletico man – could be used as a makeweight in any deal.
