Chelsea have been angered by AS Monaco’s decision to sell Anthony Martial to Manchester United, according to reports.
United completed an eye-opening £36m deal for the 19-year-old on deadline day to stave off interest from Chelsea and Manchester City, but The Times [via Daily Star] reports the Blues’ top brass are livid with the sale.
The report suggests Monaco had told Chelsea that Martial would remain with the Ligue 1 club this season and would only entertain offers next summer.
It is understood Chelsea were not informed of Manchester United’s interest, leaving the Blues fuming when the Red Devils clinched a deal for the attacker in the final hours of the summer transfer window.
While United are understood to have paid an initial fee of £36m to sign Martial, and it has been reported that the Premier League giants will have to fork out as much as £58m including bonuses and add-ons.
United currently sit fourth on the Premier League table after four matches, while Chelsea have endured a horror start and currently languish in 13th.
