One of the best scoring threats in England, Charlie Austin is eager to get back to the Premier League.
Chelsea have been closely monitoring the Charlie Austin situation, and recent events should have folks at Stamford Bridge very excited.
According to the Express, Newcastle United – considered one of the top clubs to make a transfer deal for Austin – have dropped out of the race, leaving Chelsea and West Ham United as the two top contenders for his services.
Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton were also linked with a possible move for the QPR scoring machine, but the £15 million asking price has been viewed as a little too steep.
Austin has recorded double-digit scoring seasons in nine of his 10 senior seasons since he was a teenage wonderkid with Kintbury Rangers back in 2006. After recording a hat-trick in a win over West Bromwich back in December, Austin was named Premier League Player of the Month.
The QPR scoring machine recorded 18 goals for the club last season – good for 4th best in the league – but his offensive output couldn’t match their defensive failures and QPR was relegated after just one year in the Premier League.
