Real Madrid could be set to pounce for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech after reports that Jose Mourinho has selected Thibaut Courtois to be his new number one this season, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The long-serving Czech Republic international no longer looks like being first choice for the Blues despite a great career at Stamford Bridge, with young pretender Courtois impressing Mourinho in his three-year loan stint with Atletico Madrid.
The Belgian youngster now looks like a talent too good to pass on, and will take Cech’s place in goal for the coming 2014/15 campaign, though his more experienced counterpart is unlikely to settle for a place on the substitutes’ bench.
Real Madrid are in need of a new signing in goal after some poor recent form from Iker Casillas, and may now turn to Cech if he becomes available, despite also being linked with in-form Levante and Costa Rica shot-stopper Keylor Navas.
Cech would be a suitably big name to replace the legendary Casillas at the Bernabeu after the Spaniard’s unfortunate recent decline.
