Czech stopper undergoes successful shoulder operation.
Chelsea expect goalkeeper Petr Cech to be fit for the start of pre-season training this summer.
The 31-year-old Czech international has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder during last month’s 0-0 draw with Atletico Madrid.
Cech successfully underwent surgery on Wednesday and the Blues have said that he will need at least two months to recover.
“Petr Cech successfully underwent surgery today (Wednesday) following his shoulder dislocation in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Atletico Madrid,” read a statement on the club’s official website.
“He will be out for approximately eight to 10 weeks.”
Cech has been Chelsea’s number one since he joined the Blues from Rennes in 2004.
However, he is likely to face stiff competition from 21-year-old Belgian stopper Thibaut Courtois next season.
Courtois is poised to return to Stamford Bridge after spending three years on loan at Atletico, where he has made 109 La Liga appearances.
Mark Schwarzer, 41, will be in goal for this weekend’s final-day Premier League clash at Cardiff City. It will be the Australian’s 12th and last first-team appearance for Chelsea.
Schwarzer’s current contract is due to expire at the end of June.
