Bayern and Dortmund also want Brandt.
Several top sides including Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are on alert as Wolfsburg youngster Julian Brandt looks set to leave the club, according to the Daily Star.
The 17-year-old’s current deal with the side expires next summer and despite being offered a new long-term contract, Brandt is set to leave.
“Julian Brandt has turned down the offer to sign a new contract with Vfl Wolfsburg,” a spokesman from the club was quoted by the Star.
“As he is out of contract at the end of the campaign, Julian Brandt will therefore depart from VfL Wolfsburg.”
The Blues are thought to be leading the race for the young German, despite the fact that giants from the winger’s home nation are also keeping tabs.
Jose Mourinho is a keen admirer of the youngster, who has been creating a big stir in Germany and has five caps for the under-19s.
Brandt is yet to play a senior match for Wolfsburg, but has scored 20 goals and provided 20 assists in just 35 matches in the under-19s league.
As the midfielder is younger than 21 the west London club will have to pay compensation to the Bundesliga outfit, but with the side being used to large transfer fees this will prove to be a small downside.
However, Brandt is likely to also be tempted by Bayern and Dortmund as the two clubs – particularly the former – are carving their way to become two of the best teams in Europe.
The starlet generally operates on the left-wing and cuts inside onto the player’s favoured right foot, but is equally as comfortable playing on the right.
