Chelsea are hoping to sell unwanted German midfielder Marko Marin this summer, with the 25 year-old’s former club Werder Bremen at the front of the queue for his services, according to the Daily Star.
Marin arrived at Stamford Bridge from Werder in 2012, having proven himself to be a tricky if inconsistent player in the Bundesliga, but he would go on to make just six appearances for the Blues as he struggled to acclimatise to the pace of the Premier League.
Chelsea decided to begin the process of cutting their losses last summer when the arrival of Willian made Marin’s position in the squad almost entirely untenable, with Jose Mourinho allowing him to join La Liga side Sevilla on loan.
Despite an impressive season for his club – Sevilla went on to win the Europa League on penalties against Benfica – Marin has also struggled to make an impact in Spain, meaning that Sevilla are unlikely to use any of the proceeds from Ivan Rakitic’s sale to Barcelona to bring in Marin.
This would seem to make the Bundesliga a logical destination, with German football being the one place where Marin has impressed in his career so far.
Bremen will also be looking to strengthen having endured a difficult 2013/14 season in which the former champions flirted with relegation to the second tier.
