Lichsteiner could make the switch from Juve.
Juventus right-back Stephan Lichsteiner has been identified by Chelsea as the perfect player to come in and bolster their squad, according to talkSPORT.
The Blues are set to complete a £6.5m transfer for the Switzerland international, who would compete with the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Branislav Ivanovic at Stamford Bridge.
Full-backs are a priority for manager Jose Mourinho this summer as Ashley Cole is leaving when his contract expires and the 51-year-old is not a fan of Ryan Bertrand.
It means that Azpilicueta and Ivanovic would be the only recognised players in the position available – although stars such as Patrick van Aanholt will be returning from loan.
Therefore Mourinho is keen to bring in some new faces at the back and with Lichsteiner entering the final year of his current deal with Juve, the 30-year-old could be available for a cheaper price than usual.
The Swiss ace is yet to agree a new contract in Turin, despite playing a big part in the side’s third successive Serie A title win in 2013/14.
Lichsteiner joined the Italian champions from Lazio in 2011 and arrived just as Antonio Conte’s success at the Juventus Stadium began.
The defender likes to break forward at every available opportunity and therefore is perhaps not as defensively sound as Mourinho desires.
Juve often play a back three with the likes of Lichsteiner operating as a wing-back and as a result the right-back could be more useful in games where the west Londoners are likely to dominate.
