Roma officials in London to finalise Benatia transfer.
AS Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini has flown to London to finalise the sale of Moroccan centre-back Mehdi Benatia to Chelsea, according to the Daily Express.
The 27-year-old should now complete a £30m switch to Stamford Bridge before the end of the summer transfer window, despite also being linked several times with Manchester United in the last few months.
Still, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho had been keen to sign a replacement for David Luiz, who moved to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer, and Benatia now looks to be the player trusted to come in and compete with John Terry and Gary Cahill for a place at centre-back.
This will be the latest big-name signing made by the Blues this summer, following deals for the likes of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas that have made the club strong title favourites for 2014/15.
