Zouma has stated his preference to play in England.
St Etienne defender Kurt Zouma looks set for a transfer to Chelsea this summer ahead of fellow interested clubs Anzhi Makhachkala and Borussia Dortmund, reports ESPN.
Zouma has been the subject of several potential moves to top European sides with Liverpool and Manchester United both showing interest in the past, whilst the 18-year-old even rejected a deal to join Manchester City in 2011.
The centre-back’s agent has confirmed that whilst St Etienne demand at least £8.5m for the Frenchman, there are still clubs in the running for Zouma’s signature.
“Liverpool, Juventus and Manchester United were interested, but they cooled when they learned of Saint-Etienne’s asking price,” David Venditelli was quoted by ESPN.
“There is, however, an English club and a German side still in the running.”
The two sides are widely believed to be Chelsea and Dortmund, but with Vendtelli also stating that his client would prefer a move to England the Blues appear to have the advantage.
Zouma is a product of the St Etienne youth system and signed a professional contract with the club two years ago and made his debut aged just 16.
In two seasons the youngster has played 45 times for his club in both Lique 1 and the French cups and has established himself as a first team player.
As such Les Verts are understandably keen to hold onto their starlet and Zouma is keeping his feet on the ground and trying not to have his head turned too much by attractive offers.
The defender is contracted at the French side until 2017 and is no rush to move, so Chelsea would have to do a lot to convince the France under-20 international a move to west London would be in his favour.
