Chelsea have reportedly held talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a possible swap deal that would see Belgian youngster Romelu Lukaku and Brazilian midfielder Paulinho switch clubs, according to CaughtOffside.
The Blues are seemingly happy to allow Lukaku to move to one of their rivals, with Jose Mourinho’s side yesterday confirming the re-signing of club legend Didier Drogba on a one-year deal, pushing the 21-year-old further down in the pecking order.
Everton are also known to be keen on bringing their former loan star to Goodison Park on a permanent deal, but Chelsea’s interest in Tottenham midfielder Paulinho could mean the two clubs will come to an agreement on a player exchange deal.
Chelsea want a buy-back clause installed in Lukaku’s contract at Spurs, but while the two clubs continue to negotiate a fee, talks are understood to have progressed well between the London rivals.
Paulinho, who has also been linked with Real Madrid this summer, is believed to be keen on making the step up to a club playing in the Champions League and challenging for the Premier League title after just one season at White Hart Lane.
