Chelsea’s horror start to its title defence may about to become even worse, with reports suggesting goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is facing an extended period on the sidelines due to injury.
According to London Evening Standard, Courtois suffered a knee injury during his first training back following national team duty with Belgium.
It is understood the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has not suffered damage to his cruciate ligaments, but the reports suggest that it is feared Courtois is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Courtois is due to undergo scans on Friday to see the full extent of the injury, but he is expected to miss Chelsea’s clash with Everton on Saturday.
Summer signing Asmir Begovic will get another chance to impress after producing a solid performance against Manchester City despite the side’s 3-0 loss.
Chelsea are already eight points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, and a loss to the Toffees would put a massive dent in the Blues’ chances of back-to-back league titles.
