The London rivals are competing for Freiburg ace Ginter.
SC Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter has been greatly impressing in the Bundesliga and whilst Arsenal have been trailing the youngster for some time, Chelsea have now joined the race, according to CaughtOffside.
The 19-year-old broke into the Freiburg first team last season and made 23 appearances for the club in the Bundesliga.
Ginter has played every league match for the team this term as well and looks like an established member of the squad.
It is this form that first drew the attention of the Gunners last season, as Arsene Wenger looks to continue the German revolution at the Emirates Stadium.
The arrival of club record signing Mesut Ozil in north London takes the total number of players from the nation to three, as the 24-year-old joins Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski.
However, Wenger’s men will be taken to the wire by the Blues in the chase to land Ginter, as the west London outfit continue their policy of snapping up talent when they’re young and developing them.
This tactic has come about since the introduction of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play agenda and it has already worked with Belgian duo Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku.
A similar theory would probably be employed with the teenage Ginter, who would be unlikely to break the first team straight away due to stalwarts such as Gary Cahill, David Luiz and captain John Terry.
However, the club would be open to buying the Germany under-21 international and then sending the centre-back out on-loan to develop into a top-class player.
