Manchester United have long been linked as the main contenders to sign the in-form England international, but they now look set to face competition in the running to snap up the impressive young defender, according to the Daily Mirror.
Clyne certainly looks a player capable of making the step up to a bigger club, and looks increasingly likely to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Luke Shaw and Adam Lallana, who both left the St Mary’s Stadium last summer in a mass exodus from the South Coast club.
United look in particular need of new signings at right-back, while Liverpool could also do with an upgrade on Glen Johnson, with Raheem Sterling often playing out of position in that wing-back role.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have Branislav Ivanovic and it is unclear as to why they would make Clyne a priority signing.
