Arsenal sweat on Stevan Jovetic deal as Chelsea join Juventus in race to sign the Fiorentina forward.
Arsenal’s bid to sign Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic is becoming increasingly challenging for the north London club.
Chelsea have now joined Juventus as additional suitors for the Montenegrin, according to the Daily Express.
Jovetic has found himself to be the centre of attention in the summer transfer market, with Fiorentina president Andre Della-Valle revealing there was “little chance” his star player would remain in Florence.
“The future is in his hands,” continued Della Valle to the Daily Telegraph.
“From my promise last summer, if he wants to look elsewhere he can do it.
The Express say that Jose Mourinho has earmarked Jovetic as a key player to improve Chelsea next season, with Edinson Cavani proving too expensive from Napoli.
“Jovetic is a definite option for Chelsea. Cavani at the moment is too expensive,” a source told the newspaper.
Jovetic has his choice of clubs this summer it seems then, and despite the Gunners’ new financial muscle this summer, Chelsea Russian owner Roman Abramovich’s oil money gives him a good chance of outbidding anyone.
In addition, the fact that both Chelsea and Juventus have won trophies in each of the last two seasons may make them a more enticing option for the 23 year-old.
Arsenal will hope that Jovetic is enticed by the project being built at Emirates Stadium, with the club less hamstrung by debt and poor partnership deals.
