Though Chelsea current have the Premier League’s 3rd and 6th leading scorers, the club intends to pursue 4th leading scorer Charlie Austin of Queens Park Rangers.
According to the Metro, the Blues are “definitely interested” in Austin as a replacement for Loic Remy in the event they sell their 28-year-old striker. With a reported price tag of £15 million, Austin may be out of the reach of a club like Crystal Palace, but would still be in the mix for Chelsea, West Ham United and Southampton.
Austin has scored 10 goals or more in every season as a professional since he was a teenage sensation with Kintbury Rangers in 2006-07. In 350 career appearances, Austin has 216 goals and was the Premier League Player of the Month in December 2014.
But despite Austin’s incredible 2014-15 campaign, QPR was unable to defend and gave up 73 goals (10 more than Newcastle’s 63). The club was relegated after finishing dead last on the Premier League table.
