Chelsea faces a major battle to snare the signature of Everton starlet John Stones, with reports suggesting cashed-up giants Manchester City have joined the race for the defender.
The Blues reportedly had a £26m offer for the 21-year-old rejected by the Toffees, but it is understood the Premier League champions will prepare a third bid.
According to The Mirror, however, Chelsea will face strong competition from Manchester City for the defender with Manuel Pellegrini keen to bolster his defensive stocks ahead of the new season.
City need to add home grown talent to its squad and the addition of Stones would be a massive boost to the club as it is clear the former Barnsley man has a huge future ahead of him.
According to the report, Everton are not keen to sell Stones but a bid in excess of £30m could cause a change of heart at Goodison Park.
