In a shocking revelation, Lampard has explained that Shaw, who was part of Roy Hodgson’s squad at this summer’s World Cup and is one of the most highly rated players in the country at the moment, had not heard of former Arsenal and England captain Tony Adams.
This ignorance of one of the English games’s greats convinced Lampard it was time to call it a day with the Three Lions.
“I was having a chat with Luke Shaw and I mentioned Tony Adams and he didn’t seem to know who I was talking about,” Lampard said.
“I said: ‘Are you winding me up?’ And he said: ‘Who did he play for?’ I knew then then it was time to retire.”
