When player sales are also taken into account, Chelsea’s transfer spending this summer was negligible, but Mourinho has still managed to secure top class talents such as Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Remy, something that has not gone unnoticed by Zola:
“I think it was very clever the way they used their money. They have a strong team, in every position they are very good.”
Zola, speaking at a Soccerex convention to discuss the summer’s transfer dealings across the continent, was less convinced by his former club’s Premier League rivals Manchester United and their summer spending, however:
“The potential is there but football can be affected by many things. I hope for Manchester it will go well.”
