Chelsea have been unsuccessful again in their efforts to sign Everton defender John Stones, and their persistent hunt may finally be ending.
According to the Daily Mirror, the Blues offered £37m to Everton for the 21-year-old defender, which would mark a British transfer record for a defender.
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has been adamant for a long time that Stones will not be going anywhere.
The Toffees even went as far as to turn down Stones’ transfer request, despite his alleged interest in leaving Goodison Park.
It is hard to blame Martinez for not wanting to let the rising defender slip away after Everton brought in the defender for just £3m two seasons ago.
Chelsea have been keen to strengthen its defence after a poor start to the season that his seen Jose Mourinho’s side ship seven goals in the opening three matches.
Blues skipper John Terry was substituted at half time during Chelsea’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City and was sent off against West Bromwich Albion last weekend.
