Lazio star Antonio Candreva is reportedly a summer target for Premier League champions Chelsea, with the winger believed to be unhappy after missing out on the captaincy role at the Serie A giants.
Argentine international Lucas Biglia has been handed the armband by manager Stefano Pioli, while Candreva was announced as vice-captain of the Stadio Olimpico-based side.
According to Metro [via La Repubblica] Candreva is angered by the decision and Chelsea are keen to take full advantage of the situation and lure the 28-year-old to Stamford Bridge.
Candreva’s agent Federico Pastorello told Corriere dello Sport his client is unhappy with the situation and has plenty of potential suitors should he choose to leave the club.
“Considering Antonio’s path, I thought he deserved recognition and different consideration,” Pastorello is reported as saying by Metro.
“In the way he’s represented himself, he’s shown enough in these last three and a half years.
“It’s not a lack of respect for Biglia or other teammates. Pioli has chosen another way and Candreva has taken it badly.
“He will continue with his work as he always has, but he can’t hide the deep disappointment.
“Every summer there are four or five clubs that ask for Candreva, even important clubs playing in the Champions League, but an appointment was never made with them.”
With Juan Cuadrado seemingly heading towards the exit door at Chelsea, Candreva would be a solid replacement.
The former Udinese man scored 11 goals and made nine assists last season as he helped Lazio qualify for this season’s Champions League.
