Mourinho sees Schennikov as a cut-price alternative to Shaw.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho is set to hold talks with CSKA Moscow for the services of their highly rated left-back Georgi Schennikov, reports the Metro.
Mourinho has apparently given up on signing England sensation Luke Shaw, for whom Southampton want a whopping £30 million, and has now set his sights on prising away the Russian defender.
The likes of Real Madrid and AC Milan have shown an interest in the 23-year old in the past, but the Blues are keen on pushing the deal through this summer.
Although Chelsea have all but completed the signing of Atletico Madrid’s Felipe Luis as their No.1 choice at left-back, it looks like Mourinho wants more options in that position and is now set to make a £7 million offer for Schennikov.
The Russian international is seen as one of the brightest prospects to emerge from the country in recent times, and is also expected to announce his arrival at the World Cup in Brazil this month.
