Chelsea could be set to make the surprise move of offering German winger Andre Schurrle to Atletico Madrid as they chase the signing of Brazilian defender Miranda, according to Marca.
The Blues are lining up a third raid of the summer on the Spanish champions, having already signed Diego Costa and Filipe Luis for around £50m altogether, with Jose Mourinho keen to add Miranda to his defensive options after selling David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the transfer window.
Schurrle had an up-and-down first season at Stamford Bridge after joining the club from Bayer Leverkusen, but his fine form for Germany at this summer’s World Cup suggests that Chelsea coulf have a fine player for the future on their hands.
Still, it seems as though the 23-year-old could be surplus to requirements as Chelsea prioritise signings in defence, with Mourinho also able to rely on plenty of other quality attacking players in his front three.
With Romelu Lukaku and Demba Ba both leaving recently, it could be that Chelsea will still target one more attacking player this summer as Schurrle’s departure to follow on from those two could leave the side a little light upfront.
Miranda has also been linked with Manchester United this summer, but Chelsea will hope that the offer of Schurrle in return will give them the edge over their rivals in this deal.
