Premier League title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City are set to battle for the signature of Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana this summer, reports Goal.
The Saints skipper has been brilliant all season, and earned himself a place in the England squad for this summer’s World Cup as a result.
The 25-year-old has scored nine and assisted six in the top flight, and has proved that he’s probably ready to play at a higher level.
Liverpool already have Jordan Henderson, Steven Gerrard, Joe Allen and Lucas competing for three midfield spots, along with Coutinho who can be deployed in a slightly more attacking role – but with Champions League football virtually guaranteed next term, Brendan Rodgers is keen to strengthen the squad.
Chelsea have a number of midfielders too, but with Frank Lampard 35, Jose Mourinho will likely be searching for a long-term replacement.
