Roberto Martinez praises Lukaku after brace against Belgium.
Roberto Martinez has described Romelu Lukaku as ‘unplayable’ after the 20-year-old scored twice as Everton beat Newcastle United 3-2 on Monday.
The Belgian striker took his tally to three goals for the Toffees in just his second appearance, first tapping home and then rounding Tim Krul after some poor defending from the visitors.
The Everton manager, who confirmed after the match that the Blues do not have the option to recall the Belgium international in January, praised the young forward.
“He (Lukaku) is strong and powerful, but for a No 9 to have that awareness around him – technically he is gifted,” Martinez said.
“At times he was unplayable and that that means he opened spaces for others.
“We need to get to know him. In the second half against West Ham he showed what he could do and tonight he looked at home.”
Chelsea’s three strikers, Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o, are yet to score a league goal between them this season.
