Chelsea will look to add two more names to their title-chasing squad next week, with a stunning £67 million double-swoop for Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba and Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
The Daily Star are reporting that Gabonese striker Aubameyang is close to a move to Stamford Bridge, with the two clubs in advanced talks over a £7 million deal.
The 25-year-old, who moved to Dortmund last summer from French side Saint-Etienne, scored 13 goals in 27 league appearances last season. He could provide Jose Mourinho with back-up for incoming first-choice striker Diego Costa, while his arrival could also spell the end for the likes of Fernando Torres and Demba Ba, who will then be surplus to requirements.
The Star have also claimed that the Blues are set to launch an audacious £60 million bid for former Manchester United player Paul Pogba. The Juventus-star, 21, is currently starring for France at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The deal would be the biggest in Chelsea history, eclipsing the £50 million they paid for Torres to Liverpool in 2011.
Pogba could fill the void left by former Chelsea favourite Frank Lampard, who looks likely to confirm his switch to the Manchester City owned MLS franchise, New York City, in the coming days. Lampard’s fellow midfielder, Marko Marin, also looks set to depart Stamford Bridge, with German side Frankfurt his most likely destination.
Chelsea have already added £30 million midfielder Cesc Fabregas to their squad this summer, and the Blues are seemingly keen to push forward as they look to improve on their third place finish in last season’s Premier League title race.
