Blues came from behind to beat Villa and remain in third place in the table.
Chelsea will have to wait until Sunday at the earliest to discover whether Eden Hazard and skipper John Terry will be fit to take part in Wednesday’s Europa League final with Benfica after both players picked up serious-looking injuries against Aston Villa on Saturday.
Belgium international Hazard appeared to suffer a hamstring strain in the final minutes of the west London club’s crucial 2-1 win at struggling Villa in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, captain Terry was also injured during the second half in the Midlands, with the centre back being stretchered off with what looked like a badly-twisted ankle.
The Blues take on Portuguese league leaders Benfica at the Amsterdam ArenA in four days’ time as the club go in search of their first-ever Europa League trophy, and what would also be Chelsea’s second successive European title after having won the Uefa Champions League last year.
Both players will be further assessed by the club’s medical staff at their Cobham training complex on Sunday to ascertain the full extent of their injuries and whether they will be able to travel with the rest of the Chelsea squad to the Netherlands next week.
