Stories in Portugal claim that Chelsea have had scouts present at the majority of Talisca’s games this season not only to keep track of his progress but also to scare off any interest from their rivals.
The 20-year-old has a £35m release clause in his contract, which Chelsea are willing to trigger, but it is expected that Benfica could be persuaded to sell for less.
French title contenders Marseille were also believed to be interested, but their own scouts have disappeared from the Portuguese capital weeks ago when they learned that they could not compete with Chelsea’s financial clout.
