Chelsea are readying a £20m summer bid for Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal.
The Blues will try and secure a deal for the 27-year-old Chilean when the transfer window re-opens in July, reports the Mirror.
Manchester United had previously been linked with the combative battler, but the midfielder played down speculation at the time.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho have been mightily impressed with Vidal, who’s enjoying the most productive season of his career. He’s notched 18 goals in all competitions, and registered five assists, but this only tells us half the story. Vidal is equally effective at breaking up opposition play thanks to his brilliant work-rate, physical strength and ability to tackle and intercept in the centre of the park.
Around Christmas time, Vidal (rather arrogantly), stated that right now, he was the best midfielder on the planet.
“Why am I playing so well? Well that’s simple. I’m the best in the world,” he claimed.
“Many try to imitate my style, but I want to say one thing — I’m the best in the world.”
Chelsea could see the midfielder sitting alongside January signing Nemanja Matic, and possibly Ramires if the Blues were deploying a midfield three. He would provide the side with added legs, but also goals from the middle of the park which have this season, been lacking.
Frank Lampard is ageing, and Vidal could be a superb long-term replacement option for the legendary Englishman.
As a result of his claims, but mostly his excellent form – the rumoured £20m bid seems remarkably low, and the Old Lady are very unlikely to do business unless that fee is doubled.
Vidal is all set to win his third consecutive Serie A title with Juve, and will lead Chile at this summer’s World Cup.
