Chelsea boss Andre Villas Boas is attempting to raid former club FC Porto with a bid for Alvaro Pereira, according to Sky Sports.
The 25 year-old Uruguay international plays his football both at left back and on the left wing, which could prove interesting for Chelsea’s tactics this season.
Ashley Cole looks in no danger of losing his place at left back for the foreseeable future, meaning perhaps Pereira would be bought as an orthodox left winger – providing some much needed width at Stamford Bridge.
However, Juan Mata is on the verge of moving to Chelsea from Valencia, and it was thought that he would play on the left of a front three.
Perhaps Villas Boas plans to either play him in the number 10 role – or in the role of Hulk at former club Porto cutting in from the right side of the front three.
It would appear that Chelsea’s style of football is set to evolve very quickly – especially if Luka Modric comes in from Tottenham Hotspur.
It is thought that Pereira has a £25m release clause in his contract.
