Stamford Bridge club offer cash-plus-player to sign Colombian striker.
Chelsea have made a move to sign Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao by offering £46million plus goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the Colombian hitman.
According to sport.es in Spain, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has played his hand in attempts to bring 26-year-old Falcao to the Premier League as he attempts to beat Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain to his signature.
Chelsea have a slight advantage in the quest to sign Colombian forward Falcao with the presence of Courtois in any deal, with the stopper wanted by Atletico Madrid permanently having impressed in the last year-and-a-half while on loan at the La Liga club.
The 20-year-old Belgian international Courtois was signed from Genk for £8million two years ago but has yet to appear in a Chelsea shirt. He is behind Peter Cech in the pecking order and as a result was shipped off to Atletico Madrid to gain experience. But he could now be used as a makeweight in the deal to bring Falcao to Stamford Bridge.
Former Porto striker Falcao, who has scored 58 goals for Atletico and helped the club sit second in La Liga, will leave the club in the summer having revealed he will be on the move.
It is thought he had a pre-contract agreement with French giants PSG to join in the summer, but that has not deterred Chelsea in making an approach.
