Chelsea have made a £5m offer for wonderkid goalkeeper Simone Scuffet from Udinese, report the Metro, as the chase for the player dubbed the ‘new Gianluigi Buffon’ begins to gather momentum.
Scuffet is already an established Serie A first choice goalkeeper at the age of 18, having the majority of last season between the sticks for Udinese, earning rave reviews for his performances that did little to betray his tender age.
Italy’s legendary goalkeeper Buffon is one of many who consider themselves to be fans of Scuffet, who is likely to have plenty of decisions to make about his future this summer, with Atletico Madrid also believed to be keen on the youngster.
Chelsea already have Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois at the club, meaning that Scuffet would be likely to go out on loan if he did arrive at Stamford Bridge in the manner of Courtois, possibly to Eredivisie club Vitesse Arnhem, who already house a number of young Chelsea talents.
The club have become more and more active when it comes to snapping up young talent from across the globe in recent years, with the club’s academy and youth development system one of the Premier League’s most impressive, although this is yet to manifest itself in players being produced for the first team.
Having already played a season as first choice in Serie A it is unclear whether Scuffet would want to join the Blues on the premise of being sent out on loan, and he is likely to have plenty of options to choose from.
