The 21-year-old midfielder has only managed two goals and two assists for the Toffees this term, but remains one of the most highly-rated young talents in the Premier League after breaking onto the scene in some style in 2013/14.
Barkley’s potential has already earned him a regular place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad, even traveling to last summer’s World Cup with the Three Lions after a tremendous season for his club.
The likes of Chelsea and City are seemingly keen to get their hands on this top young talent, but it looks like they will have to pay over the odds to lure him away from Goodison Park.
City are mentioned by the Star as having hoped to sign Barkley for around £30m, but that clearly won’t be enough for Roberto Martinez to consider letting one of his best players go.
