Mourinho is keen on signing the Barcelona star.
Barcelona and former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas could well become a Chelsea player this summer after Jose Mourinho admits interest in the Spaniard.
The Gunners themselves rejected a chance to re-sign their ex-captain on Thursday and despite having had run-ins with Fabregas in the past, Mourinho has revealed a deal could well happen.
“We have some interest,” the 51-year-old was quoted by the Times.
“I have interest in analysing the situation. I think it looks like he’s really interested in leaving Barcelona and is very, very interested in coming back to England. This I think is clear.
“There is a process where he wants to leave, he wants to come to England because it’s the country where he wants to be, where he prefers to play. We are interested in monitoring the situation.”
Fabregas is almost certain to leave the Nou Camp this summer, with Barca willing to let the 27-year-old leave after an indifferent three years back in Catalonia.
The Spain international returned to his boyhood club in 2011 after eight years of success in North London, completing a £35m move to the Catalans.
However, since then Fabregas has struggled to hold a regular place in the starting XI as he competes with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Xavi for a place.
Last season the midfield ace was even booed by his own fans and having had such a good experience in England previously, the nation is the player’s preferred destination.
Mourinho is in need of support in the middle of the park as well, with veteran Frank Lampard announcing he will be leaving Stamford Bridge this summer when his current contract expires and it’s believed Fabregas would be available for around £30m.
